2. San Pedro Volunteer Work Week. January 28, 2018 – February 03, 2018. Dewel Ranch just south of Benson, Arizona. The Nature Conservancy is holding a volunteer work week on the lower San Pedro River. This will be a camping/base camp trip. Work may include clearing out and removing old buildings, removing fences, clearing places to put up new fences to keep cattle out of the river bottom and clearingbrush along fire breaks.

Note: There is a small kitchen at the ranch. We have a volunteer cook but we’ll all help where we can. There will be access to the house for showering each day. If this sounds like something you would like to do with other volunteers, contact the Conservancy leader, Charlie Schulz (crs1944jr@gmail.com or 602/319-4196) or Dorothy Boone (dboone@tnc.org or 520/547-3437).

Februry 21 thru 23. Fior more information, go to http://winterwatershedconference.org/documents_paypal.htm

4. Hey Tucson, Take Home Some Merry Mulch For Your Garden And Yard – Your old Christmas tree is also a valuable sustainable resource. During this TreeCycle season, the City of Tucson will grind up Christmas trees and have chips available for the public at the Randolph Golf Course, 600 S. Alvernon Way, and at the Los Reales Landfill, 5300 E. Los Reales Road. Bring your own container(s) and take home some free Merry Mulch for your garden. Mulch retains moisture in the soil, adds nutrients, and enhances the appearance of a landscape. If you want a large amount of mulch chips, you can pick them up at the Los Reales Landfill while supplies last. TreeCycle runs through Jan. 15.
