2. PRESCRIPTION BOTTLE RECYCLING – The City of Tucson’s Environmental and General Services Department reminds residents that prescription pill bottles are not recyclable in your blue barrel. Anything smaller than a tennis ball or an adult fist cannot be recycled in the barrel, because it is too small to be captured in the sorting process. Instead of tossing those pill bottles in the trash, take them to the Primavera Foundation (any location) or Pima Animal Care Center, 4000 N. Silverbell Road. Please make sure the bottles are empty and rinsed.

3. Lake Pleasant Operations

Lake Pleasant outdoor recreation paradise is a high-use area for boating and paddling, fishing, camping, hiking, bird-watching and more. The lake levels influence the use of popular shoreline beaches, vehicle access, fish habitat, marinas and boat launching facilities.  In addition to the recreational benefits of the lake managed by Maricopa County Parks and Recreation, Lake Pleasant is critical to the reliable and efficient operation of the CAP system.

1305 cubic feet is being released from New Waddell Dam into the canal, or being pumped into Lake PleasantDuring these fall and winter months, CAP pumps Colorado River water from Lake Havasu near Parker, Ariz. into Lake Pleasant.
During the spring and summer, that water is released, which also generates some hydroelectricity!  Source: CAP

The Secretary of State’s Office reviewed over 145,000 initiative petition sheets, containing over 2.1 million signature lines, pursuant to A.R.S. § 19-121.01, and then sent a 5% random sample of the accepted signatures for each initiative to the counties for verification. The county recorders completed their signature verification and returned the certification report to the Secretary of State’s Office. Upon receipt of each county’s certification report for an initiative, the Secretary of State’s Office calculated the sample’s validity rate, which was used to project whether the initiative contained sufficient valid signatures. 5. New Limits On Sugar Intake Urged By Feds.  A report published in the September 29, 2020 “Wall Street Journal” urges new sugar consumption for Americans.  The committee of the U.S. Dietary Guidelines urges the daily content move from 10% to 5%.

It is due to a growing concern over obesity, diabetes, and the severe risk of contacting the Covid-19 virus. The head of the Nutrition Department of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill reports that most Americans are not limiting their added sugar to the 10% amount.  Two-thirds of people age one (1) and older consume more than the 10% of the recommended amount.

More than 70% of adults over 20 are overweight or obese according to the 2015-2016 figures from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. NOTE: one (1) gram of sugar equals four (4) calories.  For a regular 2,000 calorie a day diet, 120 calories should come from sugar.
